These lectures include the Okun Annual History of Medicine Lecture Series and the Barrow Annual History of Medicine Lecture.
The UF College of Medicine has long had an interest in the history of science and medicine, including hosting a long running history of medicine lecture series funded by Dr. Michael Okun. Recently, support from COM alumnus Dr. Mark V. Barrow has enabled the program to bring in a special speaker annually. In addition, the health humanities program is initiating in 2025 a series of lectures foundational for understanding how health & wellness, illness, and healthcare impact individuals and societies and provide insight into the human condition. These lectures change every year, depending on student interest and speaker availability.
Additionally, there is a foundational series of lectures offered to medical students- a series with set and predetermined topics addressing specific topics important in understanding the development of healthcare and healthcare systems.
