Dr Darrel Mase was first Dean of the College of Public Health Professions, whose tenure at the University of Florida started before the Health Science Center was built. Originally hired to run the Center for Clinical Services, Dr. Mase participated in the Medical Center Study starting in 1952 and developed a new idea for a college of related health professions situated in an academic health center. The college opened as the College of Health Related Services in 1958, and became a model for other health professions colleges.
